"Calder Jewelry features more than 450 bracelets, brooches, necklaces, and rings, exquisitely photographed in still life by Maria Robledo. Also included are Calder's inventory drawings, boxes he made to transport and store the jewelry, historic photographs of his exhibitions and of jewelry worn by notable collectors and artists and an extensive chronology.
Essays by mark Rosenthal and Jane Adlin discuss the relationship of these objects to the artist's other endeavors and in relation to the history of adornment."
A beautifully produced and lavishly photographed book - 197 color photographs by Maria Robledo and 59 black and white illustrations. Hardback with dust jacket in excellent condition. Published in 2007 by the Calder Foundation on the occasion of the exhibition "Calder Jewelry", (Norton Museum of Art 2008; Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2008; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2009, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, 2009)
Calder's jewelry has the same qualities as his famous wire sculptures and mobiles, comprising pieces that are hammered, shaped and composed of gold and silver but also making use of non-precious materials such as glass and shells and other found objects. Today pieces of Calder Jewelry are highly sought after by collectors and museums and this book gives a superb over view of his skill and talents. less
