Boys and Crib one of a series of photographs done during the 1990-1996 period photographing teenage mothers in Texas. Acid free mat and new plexiglass. Image, 14"W x 17.5"L. Black wood frame. Jocelyn Lee was born in Naples Italy, and received her BA in philosophy and visual arts from Yale University, and her MFA in photography from Hunter College. In 2001 she received a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1996 her work, The Youngest Parents, was published by DoubleTake Books and The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University in collaboration with Robert Coles and John Moses. She has exhibited nationally, most recently in an exhibition entitled “Feature Photography” at The National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, 2008; The Pace MacGill Gallery in NY, 2007 (Solo)/2005; The DeCordova Museum in Waltham, Mass 2007; The Center for Maine Contemporary Art 2007 (Solo); The University of Maine Museum of Art, 2006 (Solo); Stone Hill College, Easton, Mass, 2005 (Solo); The Bernard Toale Gallery, Boston, 2004 (Solo)/2003; The Bates College Museum of Art in Augusta, ME, 2004; The Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, MA 2004; The Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, ME, 2004; Jackson Fine Art in Atlanta, GA, 2003; The LFL Gallery in NYC, 2001 (Solo); The Portland Museum of Art in Portland, ME, 2001; and The Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, 2000.
Her works are in the collections of Maison Europeen de la Photographie, Paris, France; The Museum Folkwang, Essen, Germany; The Yale Museum of Art, New Haven, CT; The List Center at MIT, Cambridge, Mass.; The Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, ME.; The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, NC.; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX.; The Bates College Museum of Art. Lewiston, ME.; and The Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockport, ME. She is represented by Pace MacGill Gallery. Her work has appeared in many national publications including The New York Times Magazine, DoubleTake and Harpers. She teaches at Princeton University. less
