About The Poster: This page originates from the book "Two Years in the Infant School: Box 3 Topics 43-63", first published in 1938 by Georges Newnes. It is a collection of stories and poems by various artists meant to cover certain topics to be taught in schools to young children. Eighty-four topics were ultimately issued, and divvied up into four boxes of twenty topics, each accompanied by a colour plate produced by various illustrators. Edited by Enid Blyton (my favourite childhood writer, right alongside Roald Dahl!), the writing and accompanying colour plates were originally educational in nature, but remain charming, whimsical, and sweet in appearance. A number of illustrators provided artwork for the book, such as Raymond Sheppard, Lorna Adamson, Ernest Aris, William Fyffe, and Kathleen Nixon. While the specific artist for this fifty-fourth plate is unknown, the poster nevertheless remains a playful addition to any children's room or nursery.
This listing is for one vintage unlined horizontal illustration, originally from a series of book entitled "Two Years in the Infant School". This is not a reproduction, and includes the number plate (No. 54) in the upper right-hand corner, and its accompanying subtitle, "Telling The Time. The Sundial".
