A large pair of French art deco wall sconces. Made around 1930 in nickel plated solid brass or bronze holding two beautiful panels in clear frosted molded-pressed glass by Degué. The Paris based (41 rue de Paradis) company lead by David Guéron was founded in 1924-25. Guéron employed the ceramist and designer Edouard Cazaux as his artistic director and head designer. In 1936 production stopped and the company finally closed down in 1939. The shade is represented in the old Degue product catalog as #535. Both panels are signed Degué. The sconces were made by Paul Gilles and are visible in the P. Gilles 1929 product catalog. Paul Joseph Gilles (born in 1876) was a Paris based designer and producer of high-class luxurious art deco lighting during the interbellum with a large shop in the center of Paris (27 rue Esquirol). Gilles predominantly used Degué shades for his fixtures.
The sconces are 43,5 cm (17,13") wide. 13 cm (5,12") high and 11,5 cm (4,53") deep. As you can see on the last picture the two mounts are slightly different at the upper left side.
The wall lights are in very good condition. I have re-nickeled and patinated the mountings. The fixtures are rewired with American candelabra base sockets.
