This Sonia Delaunay " Art Design Fashion " rare Modernist hardcover exhibition art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with embossed cover and spine titles is published by Museo Thyssen Bornemisza Madrid, printed in Spain in 2017 by Artes Graficas Palermo, on the occasion of the exhibition. It features a monograph survey collection of the artworks of Sonia Delaunay, with accompanied compelling text authored by Marta Ruiz Del Arbol.
Sonia Delaunay ( 1885 - 1979 ) Born Sarah Llintchna Stern, was a Jewish Ukrainian born French artist, who spent most of her working life in Paris. She was formally trained in Russia and Germany before moving to France and expanding her practice to include textile, fashion, and set design. She co-founded The Orphism Art Movement, known for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes, with her artist husband Robert Delaunay and others.
She was the first living female artist to have a retrospective exhibition at The Louvre Museum in Paris in 1964, and in 1974 was named an officer of The French Legion of Honor. Delaunay's work in Modern design included concepts of Geometric Abstraction, and the integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, and clothing into her oeuvre of art practices.
When Sonia Delaunay arrived in Spain in 1914 fleeing from The First World War, Madrid represented a haven where she could give free rein to a major current of the Early Twentieth Century Avant-Garde, Her time spent in Spain left a significant mark on her work offering enormous visual appeal and a deep sense of experimentation.
2017 marked the one-hundreth anniversary of the beginning of Sonia Delaunay's second and principal sojourn in Madrid. The Museo Thyssen Bornnemisza's exhibition is the first in Spain devoted exclusively to this artist. The exhibition and this volume highlights how her time in Madrid permanently changed her and her creative devotion. Spain has carries an outstanding debt to Delaunay, who changed artistically in Madrid - and who changed Madrid as well. The exhibition and book present the fruits of extensive research opening new perspectives on one of the most appealing artists of The Twentieth Century Avant-Garde.
The rare out of print hardcover art exhibition book measures 8 1/2" W X 10" H X 1" D, with 236 pages, featuring 232 illustrations.
