A unique hand-carved Italian Vedovella fountain, made of natural limestone. The Vedovelle were initially produced in Milan, they were cast by the Fonderia Lamperti at the end of the 19th century from a design by Sir Richard Wallace, a wealthy English art collector and philanthropist who lived in France. These drinking fountains are known as Vedovelle (Little Widows) in reference to the constant stream of water which resembles the tears of grieving widows.
The fountain is composed of various floral elements resembling the acanthus, and a pine cone is fixed on the top as a finial, a typical decorative element which can be found of top of various Italian and French architectures. For this particular project, the italian sculptor Andrea Distefano had the idea to revisit the classic Vedovella by using a beautiful cream color limestone with golden and brown veins, instead of cast iron. The natural freshness and brilliance of the colors of the stone mean that the fountain can be placed without problem in outdoor or semi-indoor environments, whether of a classical or contemporary home design. less
