These are a selection of hand-painted and burnished glaze vintage bird figurines made in Tonalá, Jalisco Mexico, a province renowned … more These are a selection of hand-painted and burnished glaze vintage bird figurines made in Tonalá, Jalisco Mexico, a province renowned for its earth-tone clay and for all the pottery and ceramic art created since the 1950s. These birds were created between the mid 1970s to mid 1980s when pottery studios added bolder colors to their wares.

This bird measures approximately 6 1/2" x 2 3/4" x 4 3/4" and is created with a creamy white-colored undercoat and the body is embellished with green-leafed flowers, and decorative flourishes, brush strokes and squiggles in black, blue, and brown. The artisan wrote "Mexico" in black ink on the underside.

The duck-shaped flower pot (bowl, soap dish, ashtray, etc.) measures 8" x 3" x 2" and is created with a cream-colored undercoat embellished with yellow, brown, dark blue, green and black. The artisan initialed it and wrote: "C. A. T. Mexico 380 / II"

The bird with the elongated neck, also having a cream-colored undercoat is embellished with sky blue, brown, dark green, dark blue, a hint of yellow and black, and is signed "C. A. Mexico 300", and measures 5 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 4 1/2"

The miniature duckling, also cream-colored, is embellished with brown, dark blue and black, and measures 1 3/8" x 1" x 1 1/2"

The duck with the light blue undercoat is embellished with dark blue, teal, plum, and black, and measures 3" x 1 3/4" x 2 3/8". There is no discernible signature or maker's mark. less
