An early 19th c. English Regency ebonized encrier with great mountings on all sides. Sarcophagus shape - fully canted including drawer which is very thin with dovetails. Raised on animal paw feet. With original crystal ink pot and pounce pot - some of the pounce still inside! Good condition - one of the beaded metal mounts on the top is loose - needs a small pin nail to secure - not a fault. Measures 10.25" x 7.25".
AN IDENTICAL ink well is in the drawing room of Southill, Bedfordshire - decorated by Henry Holland c. 1800 - 1807. This inkwell is photographed on page 137 of John Martin Robinson's "The Regency Country House from the Archives of Country Life" - Aurum Press Limited, London 2005.
