An early 20th century Turkemen pillow we acquired from a private estate. We loved the tassels the weaver added giving it more of a unique character. Sewn shut with polyfill insert. 18'' x 18''
The most valuable carpets, and textiles in the Turkemen yurt were always dowry pieces. For Turkmen women, weaving these pieces for their daughter’s or sister’s dowry or for themselves was both a labor of love and a matter of prestige. Particular care and diligence were taken in both the sorting and the carding of the finest wool, invariably from the spring clip. These pieces, many of them works of art, have a variety of colors and detail in the design that are difficult to find in market-produced pieces. They are made with one of the finest hand spun wool using natural dyes with the traditional Turkish double wefted asymmetrical knot.
