A nice pair of French art deco wall sconces in nickel plated solid brass or bronze by Henri Mouynet made around 1930. Henri took over the business of his father Marcel Mouynet. Henri was a producer of bronze and forged iron lighting fixtures. He had a large company in Paris working mainly in a neo-classical style but he made lamps sconces and chandeliers in modern (art déco) style as well. In 1926 he built a huge building at 11 rue Etienne Marcel prolongée (nowadays named Roger Verlomme street). After the crisis he was forced to sell it. H. Markhbeinn who had a business importing and distributing Bohemian glasses from Eastern Europe bought the place in 1937.
The nicely detailed mounts of the wall sconces hold shades in clear frosted molded-pressed glass by Verdun the glass manufactory of Maurice Model. Both panels are signed Verdun France on the rim. They are in excellent condition. One small chip can be seen on the inside of the rim of one shade. It is hidden by the mounting. The mounts are marked MM66. MM is the foundry mark of Marcel Mouynet and was used by Henri and later by his widow till the Mouynet company closed down.
The wall sconces are 28,2 cm (11,1) wide and 15,5 cm high (6 inches). They project 11 cm (4,33") from the wall. The sconces are in very good condition. The nickel plating shows it's old but is still in excellent condition. The sconces are rewired with American candelabra base sockets.
