This is an OUTSTANDING 19th Century American Impressionist Oil Painting on Canvas done by well-known listed Artist, Alexis Comparet (1856-1906). The clouds are particularly beautiful and call to mind Corot. Comparet studied in Paris and those influences are clear in this standout work. Signed lower right. Titled "After the Rain" on stretcher bars. It is been custom framed in a hand-carved solid gilt wood plein air frame and is ready to hang.

• About the Artist: Known as a painter of tonalist landscapes, Alexis Comparet was born in South Bend, Indiana, and traveled widely. He studied with Benjamin Constant in Paris in 1874 and with early Colorado painter Harvey Young. In 1879, he was in New Mexico for a brief time and then returned to his home state of Colorado to teach at the Colorado Academy of Design, which was short lived. One of his collectors was Sarah Bernhardt who introduced him to her troupe when she was performing in Denver. In 1906, he moved to San Diego, California and later changed his name to Compera. He died at Coronado Beach. His work can be found at the Colorado State Museum. (Source: AskArt) less
