The hardcover art book with chocolate brown linen covered boards, embossed gold tone foil spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Harry N. Abrams Inc. Publishers New York, printed and bound in Spain in 1989 by Poligrafa S.A., Barcelona. Catalogue by Michel Richet honorary conservateur en chef of the museum.
Pablo Picasso ( 1881 - 1973 ) was a Spanish born painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, poet and playwright who spent most of his life in France. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of The Twentieth Century. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became one of the most well known figures in 20th Century Art.
The Musee National Picasso is located in The Marais district of Paris France, dedicated to the work of artist Pablo Picasso. The museum collection includes more than 5000 works of art ( paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceramics, prints, engravings and notebooks ) and tens of thousands of archived pieces from Picasso's personal; repository, including the artist's photographic archive, personal papers, correspondence, and manuscripts. A large portion of the items were donated by Picasso's family after his death, in accordance with the wishes of the artist, who lived in France from 1905 to 1973.
This first United States edition landmark volume is complied by the honorary conservateur en chef of the museum. It illustrates more than 1.500 works, including Picasso's entire collection of his drawings, watercolors, gouaches, and pastels. The catalogue is arranged chronologically, from the earliest academic works through the great years of Cubsim and Abstraction to the last months of the artist's life.
It includes many important sketches and studies for major paintings and sculptures. The illustrations are accompanied by scholarly commentaries that place Picasso's works in the context of his life and the art historical scene, as well as by a list of exhibitions and a selected bibliography.
The rare out of print landmark volume hardcover Modern Art book measures 8 1/2" W X 11" H X 1 3/4" D, with 418 pages. It features 1.840 offset lithograph print illustrations including 41 plates in full color.
