A large pair of French art deco wall sconces in nickel plated bronze by Petitot. They hold nice cups in bluish opalescent glass. These shades were made by the glass manufactory EJG-Ezan. This model cup is never signed. The thick semi-crystal shows beautiful tones of milky blue or warm amber depending whether light falls on it or shines through. The bronze arms have the usual Petitot foundry marks AP (for Alexandre Petitot).
The bronze maker Alexandre Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Hubert took over around 1917. The Paris based company of Petitot was a wholesale selling its lamps to lighting shops all over France Europe and the States. Together with Hettier & Vincent Petitot became the largest producer of French art deco lighting in the late 20s and early 30s. Petitot produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades by the best French glass manufacturers.
The large heavy wall sconces have a weight of 3 kilos per sconce. They take two bulbs each. One in the shade and a second one inside the bronze arm to illuminate the shade from the outside. The sconces are 25,5 cm (10 inches) high and project 33,8 cm (13,3") from the wall. The shades have a diameter of 21,2 cm (8,35"). The sconces are rewired with four American candelabra base sockets.
