A small nickel-plated bronze or solid brass French art deco flush mount by Francis Hubens. This ceiling fixture was made around 1931- 1934. The mount holds a nice skyscraper shade in clear frosted pressed glass. Francis Hubens was a Paris based lighting manufacturer during the interbellum. With his workshop and showroom at 68 rue des Archives. Hubens primarily used Degué shades for his fixtures. Some models specially made for Hubens by Degue bear a Hubens signature. But also Muller freres made one model shade for Hubens. This model exists in two sizes. And in four versions: unsigned, signed Hubens, signed Muller., signed both Muller and Hubens.
The one on this flush mount is the smaller size and it has both the Muller and the Hubens signature: On four sides of the hexagonal shade it is marked Francis Hubens-France-Muller freres-Luneville. The 'Muller freres' part is practically invisible and shows up like a kind of braille only. These shades were produced by the Muller glass factories around 1932 onwards. In the 1931 Hubens product catalog we can see a table lamp and flush mount with the same bronze Hubens base holding a Degué globe (plafonnier model #5051). Later Hubens sold this base with the Muller shade as well. In the 1934 Hubens catalog chandeliers with these Muller shades used on a chandelier. The catalogs are no part of this sale.
The flush mount has a height of 22,1 cm (8,7 inches). It is in very good condition. I re-nickeled and patinated the mount. It is rewired with an American candelabra base socket.
