Description: A Swedish painted wood side chair from the late 19th century, with carved splat, tapering legs and black upholstery. Created … more A Swedish painted wood side chair from the late 19th century, with carved splat, tapering legs and black upholstery. Created in Sweden during the last decade of the 19th century, this painted chair features a pierced back topped with a curving rail securing a central carved splat. The rectangular seat is covered with a black fabric adorned with discreet rose motifs. The chair is raised on four legs, fluted and tapering in the front and saber in the back. An H-Form stretcher and side stretcher in the back strengthen the ensemble. The piece is painted in a soft color typical of the Swedish taste for light palettes, aiming at brightening the rooms during the dark winters of Scandinavia. With its clean lines and complimenting colors, this accent chair circa 1890 will make for a lovely addition to any home, particularly placed in a bedroom, living room, hallway or foyer.
