- This is just a great original piece. It is not often that I will buy an unsigned painting in order … more This is just a great original piece. It is not often that I will buy an unsigned painting in order to sell. I often buy them for my house as if I love the painting, I will purchase it. This is one of those paintings that I just had to buy. I have searched it over and over and been unable to find any signature or markings that would help me figure out who the artist is. To be honest, when I saw the painting, it really reminded me of the incredible still life paintings of important 20th century artist Robert Schmid. This is a stunning oil on canvas measuring 16 x 20 inches. Based on the back of the canvas, the stretcher, and the nails used I would say this painting dates to the middle of the 20th century period. There is a stamp on the back of the stretcher from bay state stretchers which I am finding started in 1893 and many of the paintings on them are from the first half of the 20th century. Maybe a little later. Their is also a small sticker on the back that reads h-48 that makes me think this was either part of an exhibition or a collection at some point. The painting is in excellent condition with just a minor layer of surface grime. Really an outstanding example of 20th century boston school work. Original mid century frame is complimentary and ready to hang (needs a bit of a dusting as I left it as I got it). Frame measures 20 1/4 x 24 1/4 inches. less
