Warren Platner was an architect who collaborated with some of the mid-century greats, but it is his collection of furniture for Knoll for which he is best remembered. Introduced in 1966, the Platner Collection is an icon of modern furniture. The Platner Collection of furniture is defined by the use of metal rods that are shaped to form the base of the pieces. Platner personally formulated the production techniques for the complicated designs within each chair requiring over a thousand welds and more than one hundred cylindrical steel rods.
This set was acquired from the original owner who purchased it in October 1967, as shown by the original receipt. The set was rarely used and never left its original dining room after being placed there fifty years ago. Therefore it is in wonderful condition.
In this set, the bases are nickel. The chairs are upholstered in their original black fabric. The table top is a circular piece of green Italian marble, policed, and 54" in diameter, making it rarer and more desirable. This is truly a remarkable find!
