A lovely and refined set of four fine ceramic ashtrays in the shape of a shell; they were hand-molded, then fired in the kiln a first time, then on the white majolica the inner decoration was done with a delicate shaded blue color at this point the objects underwent a second firing, the outer part was then decorated and finally, the ashtrays were fired a third time to finally fix the colors thus creating four small works of art. The ashtrays were made between 1936 and 1938 by the firm Ceramiche Artistiche Rometti and bear the signature of the company itself on the bottom. Ceramiche Rometti was founded in 1927 in Umbertide, Perugia, Italy, by the insight of skilled ceramist Settimio Rometti, who called on the collaboration of his grandsons, Aspromonte Rometti and Dante Baldelli. In a climate of cultural ferment such as that of the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, the dream to be realized has a precise and ambitious shape: Rometti will become the synthesis of art, craftsmanship, and industrial production, a new way of reading expressiveness and enhancing the potential of ceramics. Rometti enhances the techniques and materials costuded by local artisans: natural clay obtained from quarries bathed by the Tiber River, hand or lathe molding, objects treated with special varnishes that emphasize the depth of colors and decorations-all these techniques are part of the recipe for the uniqueness that has made Rometti's pieces among the most coveted by collectors worldwide. With the passage of decades and artistic-cultural currents, but also of alternating business vicissitudes, Rometti remains an essential point in the art of ceramics, collaborating with great names in design and obtaining numerous awards, including a gold medal at the International Exposition of Nice in 1931 another at the Fiera del Littorio in Bologna, in 1932 the manufactory was present at the Fiera dell'Artigianato in Florence and at the Fiera del Levante in Bari, and in Umbertide it received a visit from Mussolini furthermore several awards at the Milan Triennale in 1933. After World War II in Umbertide, he founded a new factory "Rometti" in partnership with Manlio Banelli and Piero Finocchi. Settimio Rometti abandoned the pottery business, for reasons of age, in the late 1960s. The firm, under the ownership of the Finocchi family, is still active. The objects are in excellent condition. Measures width cm.15, depth cm.14 height cm.4. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc) for maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
