- English antique elm spindle back chairs with rush seats - these date from 1830-1860 and form a lovely vignette with … more English antique elm spindle back chairs with rush seats - these date from 1830-1860 and form a lovely vignette with an accent table or as side chairs. Given their age, they are not thought to be used as active seating today, in order to preserve the rush seats. The rush material has developed a caramel and warm patina over time, and the wooden legs and back are nicely carved. These are surprisingly versatile in a number of design settings. These gather consistent compliments and are quite appealing. less
