This chair, which has changed the history of padded furniture is the fruit of an intuition of AFRA and Tobia Scarpa. Designed in 1969, based on the new possibilities offered by the molding of polyurethane foam to generate unconventional relaxation. The couple was strongly influenced by Tobia's father, Carlo Scarpa, an architect and Venetian designer. The design of the Soriana armchair earned them many prizes such as the Compasso d'Oro in 1970, for their design of the Soriana chair. Their design work consists of architecture and daily household items, including interior decoration, furniture, clothing, glass of art.
This chair consists of 100% recycled or wadding PET padding as well as a painted metal structure. The particularity of this chair is that it does not need internal support due to the metal structure which surrounds it like a vice.
