This Antique Chinese Treasure Trunk is handmade in elegant Ming "Waist" furniture style. The "waist" just below the trunk top is made from a separate piece of wood and carved in a "narrower waist" connecting the top and the body of the trunk in a very unique way. The double-line carvings apply to all the edges of the trunk. The workmanship in making this trunk exemplifies the refined skills of the most talented craftsmen of Ming-Qing dynasty. The trunk was originally made for storage of Gold or silver bars and coins for the wealthy family before paper money was used in China. The trunk is four-sided and in excellent condition from all sides. There is a panel on top of the trunk used for opening. The embossed copper lock on the panel is original. The trunk is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and a tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Original patina and wear. Made from Zelkova wood with beautiful natural wood grain, the trunk is very solid and has been kept in excellent condition. Circa early of 19th century.
