Southampton, New York’s National Golf Links of America, founded in 1908 by titans of industry, is steeped in history, yet our focus is the golf bags laid out in anticipation of a fun round ahead. In the distance The National’s gabled club house, built in 1911, overlooks Long Island’s Peconic Bay, and the colorful bags against the green grass are a picture of old school golf.
The beaded gilt frame with a its ocean blue mat perfectly complements this work.

Henry Koehler, 1927-2018, was a world-renowned sporting artist with a particular passion for animals – especially equestrian field sports and dogs. Born in Kentucky and a 1950 graduate of Yale College, he eventually made his home in Southampton, New York. Patrons included members of the British Royal Family - HRH The Prince of Wales and Prince Edward and Wallace Simpson, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor - as well as Ralph Lauren and Nina Campbell. After seeing his painting of a sailing regatta on the cover of a 1960 issue of Sports Illustrated, Jacqueline Kennedy commissioned him for a painting of her husband, John F. Kennedy.
