Pearlware root pot or flower stand with unsmoothed 'terra tersia' pebbled decoration, made in Staffordshire or Yorkshire circa 1795 - 1800. Part of the surface is roughened with small particles of brown and white clay. Terra tersia decoration is achieved as a veneer of turners’ waste; i.e. shavings from a variety of processes involving the horizontal lathe, rolled into a flat, thin sheet and applied to the pot body in the unfired state. Probably Wood & Caldwell. less
