1930's artist signed self portrait oil on canvas of Peggy Bacon (1895 - 1987) in period carved gilt wood frame. Measures 29 1/4" x 27" overall. Some surface abrasions and loss of paint, tiny puncture - presents very well.
Peggy Bacon was a noted writer and art educator as well as painter, illustrator and print maker. She was known for her sharp wit as an illustrator of children's books and for her satirical caricatures of the New York City art world in the 1920's and 1930's with contributions made to the New Yorker and Vanity Fair.
