Superb vintage painting by Cuban artist Roberto Torres Lameda (1956-, Paraiso) circa 1996. From his bio provided at Indigo Arts Gallery online: "He is a member of the 'Grupo Bayate' collective of self- taught artists in the Village of Mella, near Santiago de Cuba."
Titled "Gigante", this colorful oil on linen painting shows a mythical scenario of a larger than life bull and rider in a rodeo setting with the smaller participants and spectators looking on. The rural landscape is broad with a highly and extensively detailed foreground of homes, trees and shrubs, while the distant hills are punctuated with palm trees.
Painting alone measures 25.75"x 17.25"x 1", with an overall framed size of 26.5"x 17.75"x 1.25". Overall excellent condition with minor storage/handling wear that includes a wee rub upper right corner. Signed and dated lower right, labeled to reverse...all seen in photos. less
