This is an exceptionally rare form and we’re very excited to present this to our southern collectors. We’re very familiar with the MESDA museum, Winterthur collection, & Colonial Williamsburg and don’t believe any of them have a stand in this form. The stand has a shaped top and a carved column with tight ringlets and an inverted cup. This rare turning pattern is mainly associated with Virginia and was probably meant to resemble a beehive which was an important symbol to the Freemasons. The stand has a three leg base and is in wonderful condition free of any breaks and repairs. The legs have a shallow carving around the edges and are reinforced with an iron spider. When the stand is flipped up like in our gallery image the stand measures 20” wide x 14 1/2” deep x 37” tall. When the top is locked down the stand is 28 1/4” tall. less
