A rare pair of large French art deco wall sconces made around 1930. Nickel plated solid brass or bronze hold slip shades by EJG (Etablissement Jean Gauthier) in frosted molded-pressed glass. The shades were acid frosted and then polished by hand to create glossy highlights. A beautiful, larger and rare model slip shade. Both are signed EJG 1078 (for Etablissement Jean Gauthier). The sconces are 34 cm high (13,4") and 24,7 cm wide (9,7 inches). They project 20 cm from the wall (7-7/8"). They are in excellent condition. I have re-nickeled and patinated the original fixtures. The lights come rewired. For the States Canada or Japan I placed US candelabra base sockets.

Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in molded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J. Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
As professional restorer of French Art Deco lighting with 20 years of experience as online seller I guarantee safe packaging with the glass shades well protected. My parcels are shipped with PostNL (Dutch post) and are distributed in the US by USPS. They deliver in about 10 days but there is a sometimes serious delay due to US customs in between. less
