The top has been replaced and we suspect this was originally a highboy base. The conversion was masterfully done and the cabinet maker who did the work picked out an appropriate overhung top with pinched corners, a molded edge, and a light plum pudding figuring in the grain. The dressing table has a total of 4 drawers arranged in a 1 over 3 format. The drawers are dovetail joined with chamfered panels and the original scribe marks and tool marks are still present. The backboards are also rich with hand tool marks and there’s another view of the joinery easily visible at the back. We absolutely love the dramatic scrolling at the apron with opposing spurs at the center. The sides panels are scrolled with a complimentary design and provide a seamless transition into the knee blocks and the start of the legs. The cabriolet legs are masterfully formed with graceful curves & ideal proportions. There’s a shallow carving at the center of the knees with undeveloped C scrolls along the edge that continue the scrolling on the knee blocks. The legs terminate with padded slipper feet and have an unusual lamb's tongue carving at the heel. The slipper feet are superbly formed with a ton of character and are one of the best examples we’ve encountered in years. The lowboy is in wonderful condition with our only further notes being minor surface wear, a repair to the bottom right drawer face, & an old repair to the back right foot that we have standalone pictures of. It may seem trivial for us to point out these minor repairs on a 250 year old dressing table of this caliber, but we’ll always bring to light anything we note on inspection no matter how inconsequential they may be. The lowboy measures 41 1/2” wide x 24” deep x 33” tall. less
