A rare 1925-30 French art deco table lamp by the famous Paris based company of Georges Leleu. He founded the company by the turn of the century. It closed down in the late 30s. The lamp is done in nickel plated bronze or solid brass and holds a spectacular pentagonal shade in clear frosted molded-pressed glass. This model bowl is never signed yet directly recognizable and represented in numerous Leleu product posters. The base itself is signed Jehel. In French that's pronounced the same way as the letters GL for Georges Leleu. Some early models Leleu shades have this similar Jehel signature yet it's highly uncommon to find it on bronze.
The lamp is represented as # O-1815 on the 1929 G.Leleu poster, see last picture. The poster is of course no part of this sale. These types of shades were produced for Leleu by Verreries des Hanots. And like almost all Hanots shades they almost always show internal hairlines due to the cooling down methods used by Hanots after the thick shades came out of the molds. I have no written proof Hanots made all these special early Leleu shades but it's very clear by the way these pieces were made it cannot be any other glass factory than Verreries des Hanots.
The lamp is in excellent condition. The original nickel plating shows some wear consistent with age. Here and there the underlying bronze shines through giving the lamp a nice patina and I saw no reason replating it. The total height of the lamp is 39,5 cm (15,55") and the shade has a diameter of about 13,5 to 14 cm. I have rewired the lamp with cloth covered twisted cord. It comes with an American candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug.
