The story began in the 1700 , before the households in Hamburg received running water from pipes, water could only be picked up at wells. Some people were given free water in exchange for carrying waters to the households. One of them was a famous man named Hans Hummel. His real name was Johann Heinrich Bentz, but he had moved into the former apartment of a popular soldier named Hummel. This Hummel was a grumpy man and the kids teased him by shouting "Hummel Hummel!" He responded by saying "Mors! Mors!" (on the back of the base the figurine is the word "Mors" engraved) translates something like "kiss my **S!" less
