A wonderful pair of French art deco lamps made around 1925-1930 by Cherrier et Besnus. The nickel-plated bronze or solid brass bases hold signed shades in clear frosted molded pressed glass by Muller frères. The famous glass manufactory in Luneville France. In 1926 monsieur E. Cherrier and the investor Besnus took over the company of Roger Massin at 36 Amelot street. Massin produced bronze lighting in a neo-classical and art nouveau style. Cherrier continued the production of these Massin products as well as introduced new designs in art deco style. The company opened a second larger workshop in Choisy. The art deco lamps of Cherrier & Besnus are well made items of excellent quality. This model bronze base is sometimes stamped with the foundry initials RM (for Roger Massin). But most of them are not marked, like the two bases of the pair on offer.
The lamps are 26,4 cm high (10-3/8 inches). The lamps are in very good condition. I replated and patinated the bases and the lamps are rewired with new twisted rayon covered cord, new plugs and switches. I placed American candelabra base sockets and US 2-prong plugs.
