A wonderful pair of French art deco lamps by Maynadier made around 1925-1930. The nickel-plated bronze or solid brass bases hold shades in clear frosted molded pressed glass.
Pierre Maynadier had a manufactory producing art deco lighting during the interbellum in Paris (25 rue Saint-Sébastien). Nowadays most known for his beautifully designed bronze fixtures Pierre Maynadier made lights with wrought iron mounts as well. In the late 30s they started to produce lighting in pressed brass in a modernist style. After the war the son took over and the grandson after him. The firm finally closed its doors in 1966.
Both shades are signed P. Maynadier. The signature on this model shade is very small and always almost invisible. With a piece of transparent tape, it shows up though. Maynadier was not a glass factory. He ordered shades mainly at Muller and Schneider, The Maynadier signed shades are models were produced on special order by Muller frères. At the back of the bases the letter P of the MP foundry marks is still visible.
The lamps are 33,2 cm high (13 inches). The pair is in very good condition. I replated and patinated the bases and the lamps are rewired with new twisted rayon covered cord. For the USA Canada or Japan I placed American candelabra base sockets and US 2-prong plugs.
