A contemplative lithograph on paper titled Woman and Child by Raphael Soyer. From the portfolio "Art for ADL" (Anti-Defamation League), 1969. Signed lower right in pencil and in stone with an annotation of 114/125 on the bottom left. Inscription in stone, left of composition: "Are you not as the children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel/ "Amos IX:7. In Hebrew, right of the composition. Dimensions: 28.25"w x .75"d x 36"h (framed). In very good vintage condition.
Raphael Soyer (1899-1987) was a Russian-born American painter. He is best known for his realist paintings which depicted urban life in New York City. Soyer's work was influenced by both the Ashcan School and European Modernism. He is considered to be one of the most important American realist painters of the 20th century.
