A continuous fine leaf and flower design is carved into the piece in low relief.
Signed on the underside with numerous difficult-to-read impressed and incised markings - by the artist and probably the studio where it was made in Japan.
Excellent condition. Maker unidentified.
This would look beautiful with a few elegant flowers in it.
