A French 19th Century, Large Sea Shell carved with Christopher Columbus holding the World with his right hand, that symbolizes … more A French 19th Century, Large Sea Shell carved with Christopher Columbus holding the World with his right hand, that symbolizes the Conquest of the World, next to a Native, that shows fear. Both have their feet on the Bible (which symbolizes the faith in Christianity that has always been part of all the conquests of Christopher Columbus). The Bible has the inscription: “La Decouverte de L’Amerique” (The Discovery of America), which represents the propagation of the word of God throughout the World.
Underneath the bible is represented Satan, as a defeated evil. Because Christopher Columbus believed that Satan had settled in India to disrupt the spread of the Gospel and delay the second coming of Christ.

Item condition: Two small holes next to the Native. One flaw on the bottom of the shell. Small chips and minor flaws along the shell scultpure. Minor scratching. Age weathered surfaces. Condition is appropriate for age and use. See photos for complete assessment.
