Look closely, as the bench has black paint over dark blue undertones, giving an overall impression of a very dark blue. The bright colors of red, green, yellow and blue were favorites in Eastern Europe, and their exuberant painting style still brings joy today. The splay legs and heart cut outs in the back were traditional style elements in the 1800's as well. Note the photo of the back, with names and the date of 1935. While this bench dates to the 1800's (based on style, craftsmanship and wear) it was likely given as a present or handed down in a family, with the date of 1935 honoring the year of celebration. This splay leg bench has been professionally restored, so it is strong, stable, waxed and ready to enjoy. Any nicks, scratches, distress are commensurate with age and do not impact the function nor beauty of this wonderful bench.
