The tall slender form is slightly flared to the shoulder and in overall covered with a deep-red tone and "orange-skin" glaze surface; mid 20th century, good condition, private New York City collection.

*Copper-red and Jun-red:

Copper-red is actually a comprehensive term for a couple of monochromic red glaze forms which contain copper element that turns red when fired in reduction atmosphere, such as Langyaohong, Xianhong, Jihong, peach blossom and Qing-style Jun red. The earliest copper-red glaze occurs in the Tang dynasty (618 - 907), and Jun kilns of the Song dynasty (960-1279) commonly and creatively used copper glazes. Copper-red was widely used by both imperial and provincial kilns to maximize the beauty of porcelain enamel. Langyaohong, peach-blossom, Jun red are among the most successful types of copper-red glaze. Since copper is very volatile it is so difficult to fire a copper-contained glaze and make it pure red.
