Vermehren is a Dutch artist and is well known for his romantic depictions of farm life. He primarily painted portraits after 1870 but this painting is believed to have been painted during the 1870s. Several of his works appear in museums and he painted during the period known as the Golden Age of Dutch Painting. We have been told that it wasn't uncommon for him to sign his works noting an "A" before his last name then indicate his first initial as his son (Gustav) was also a painter.

This painting and frame are in lovely antique condition. We did not find any flaws or areas of concern on the canvas. The frame shows wear to the finish with a few nicks here and there but still shows beautifully. The measuments noted include the frame. less
