A lovely and charming example of Vicke Lindstrand's elegant, stylized figures on glass, made for the Orrefors glass company in Sweden. This Art Deco vase features an engraved mermaid diving downward into the bubbles.
The thick glass vase is gently rippled to give the effect of undulating waves below the surface. The figure is finely engraved and is reflected back through the glass and appears to be moving as one moves around the piece. The crystal vase is set on a black glass base.
Designed by Lindstrand for Orrefors in the 1930's where he developed a line of thick-walled crystal glass and decorated them with a series of quintessentially Art Deco engraved figures. 1930's Sweden.
