We are very pleased to offer a gorgeous majolica jardiniere or centerpiece bowl by Sarreguemines France, circa the 1920s. The Sarreguemines pottery was founded around 1784 by brothers Nicholas-Henri and Paul-Augustin Jacobi, but it wasn’t until 1800 when new management under Paul Utzschneider made Sarreguemines successful. Most notably, Napoleon I became one of Paul’s major customers; likewise, the factory supplied most of the original tiles used to decorate the walls of the Paris metro during its construction. In 1860 they introduced majolica to its production making the town of Sarreguemines into one of the most important centers for ceramics in Europe.
This beautiful piece features a gorgeous jardinière insert, a red merlot color on the outside contrasts a beautiful glazed turquoise tone inside. The jardinière is encased in a luxurious gilt bronze mount, richly decorated in Empire style ornamentation. Winged feet and scrolled handles add to it sumptuous details. Signed on the underside. There is general patina to the metal and a tiny hairline chip, that according to its original owner, it has been there for the past 50 years. Blemish is not noticeable on the outside, please see the last three pictures for blemish details. Overall stunning and in great condition, ready to be on display for years to come. Please see all attached pictures.
