This is a wonderful and unique vintage hand paint cigarette box! It is done out of wood with clay gesso overlay, hand painted and glazed.

This beautiful box is done in tones of rich golden yellow with artwork done ochre, persimmon, and teal.

Serpents are featured on the front, sides, and top... which has an elegant brass handle.

The front has a brass clasp and when the lid is lifted ... 48 slots are revealed which will hold cigarettes. The bottom is done in an aged golden grosgrain fabric.

I am unsure as to the origin - Possibly Italian - French?

~ CONDITION: Overall ... Wonderful! Artwork is beautiful. Due to age and normal handling, there are small chips along the bottom edges, but nothing that stands out, and is simply part of its wonderful character! The interior is intact and clean. The grosgrain on the bottom has some staining ... but is on the bottom and not seen. It has slightly separated form the wood at the front, but not noticed, because the weight of the box rests down on it. I am truly being nit picky. For me none of this takes away from the beautiful artwork, uniqueness ... I love it! Be sure to view all photos. less
