If you’re in the mood to set a refined, elegant table, you’ve arrived!
This Austrian set (Victoria pattern, wouldn’t you know?), with its beautifully, though restrained Art Nouveau-inspired decoration, will delight you and impress your guests.
Altogether there are more than sixty pieces, some are “mystery” pieces.. I’m sure you’ll have fun thinking about that and experimenting with how they might be used. The set is certainly a hundred years old (or older). The gold edging is in good condition, but there is the suggestion of some wear/loss to that gold edging, although it’s entirely possible that it was made to look exactly as it is, to enhance the “antique” look of the set. This possibility is enhanced by the fact that the set seems to have seldom if ever been used, as there seem to be few or no knife marks or chips on the plates. So it is my final pronouncement (opinion) that there’s only minimal wear to the gold on the edges (if any)..
One of the dozen dinner plate has an old 2”-long crack in it. There are no cups to accompany the twelve saucers (giving you the opportunity to fill in with something playful). The creamer was involved in an accident and although the piece that broke off the spout has been epoxied back into place, there’s a hairline crack going a couple of inches down from the break; and who knows how sturdy the epoxied repair on the spout might be? The creamer could hold a few flowers in the center of the table and look glorious, while continuing to “serve” in its humble way.
Here’s the inventory list:
12 dinner plates (about 10” across)
12 salad plates (about 8” across)
11 soup bowls (about 7 ½” across)
12 small bowls (about 5” across)
1 small serving platter (9 ¼ long)
1 large serving platter (12” long)
1 open serving bowl
1 covered serving bowl (tureen)
1 covered sugar bowl
1 creamer
1 miscellaneous bowl with cover allowing heat dissipation
12 saucers; and where, oh where, can those little cups be?
1 covered vegetable tureen
