We were delighted to acquire these amazing hand carved Chinese dark red / brown lacquer stools or rice storage containers / barrels with dragons and eternal phoenix birds.
These large Chinese hand carved wooden stools have a traditional red lacquer finish. Ovoid shape with wrap-around, opposing dragon & phoenix designs carved in very high relief, fluted top & bottom rim designs and fitted lids. The lids are slightly concave for comfortable sitting.
The interior hollowed out for use as a storage container with an interior volume of approximately 4 to 5 gallons. These must have taken a skilled craftsman a long time to make.
No markings.
Condition is very good as is the symbolism.
Vintage 2nd half 20th Century.
We have 5 available - these multi purpose items can be used as seats, stools, containers, storage boxes, end tables, pedestals or purely as ornamentation. We love them!
