Description: This is a great hall bench made by Merklen Brothers in New York City, 1885 to 1890, in good original … more This is a great hall bench made by Merklen Brothers in New York City, 1885 to 1890, in good original finish. The wood is OAK. There were very few of these made. It has been thoroughly cleaned and a light coat of wax applied. There is a crack in the seat where the boards were joined together, this is a common occurrence and does not affect the structure.. Spiral turned legs and stretchers, barley twist strands woven into lattice work in the back, carved talon and ball feet.. It is relatively rare and quite beautiful...It is truly a piece of art! Keep in mind while this bench is structurally sound one should take care to not give it heavy use, it was not designed for that.
Measures 54" long, 24.5" deep x 37" tall, (at tallest point in center.)
