This vintage 3x6 Gabbeh Persian runner joins the latest entries in Rug & Kilim’s rare tribal curations. Hand-knotted in wool circa 1950-1960.
On the Design:
This tribal provenance is one of the most primitive, and collectible shabby-chic styles in handmade nomadic rugs. Exceptional Gabbehs like this are known for thick, lush pile, archaic colors and subversive ideas of patterns for their period. This piece hosts beige-brown and gray field striae, and a rich red outer border with black geometric accents.
Connoisseurs will admire this rug as one of few that enjoy such simple, patternless designs in this provenance. It's astounding to see the abrashed background make a subdued, yet present pattern in its own right, and the result is a delicious, easy-to-live-with piece and a great neutral option for a variety of spaces.
