Artist Isaac Maimon takes an Expressionistic approach to his subject, using vibrant colors and thick impasto in certain areas to render this still life of a vase with flowers.
Isaac Maimon was born in Israel, in 1951, to French speaking parents. He grew up in Tel Aviv exhibiting a talent for art, a love for la vie Francais, and an appreciation of the beauty of the human form. "I am inspired by beautiful women and the human form in general," he explains. "I see that there is beauty in every human being, and I am inspired to bring that beauty to my paintings." Maimon has devoted the majority of his life pursuing a career in the arts. He attended the Avni Institute of Fine Arts in Tel Aviv, Israel's most prestigious academy for the arts. This is where his initial interest in the Paris School was cultivated; where he studied the works of the French painters Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Henri Matisse. In 1980, Maimon started teaching at the School of Visual Arts in Beer-Sheeba, and later that year at the Kaye Art Academy, He also became a professor at the Ben-Gurion University in Beer-Sheeba in the late 1980's.
Maimon has always been captivated by beautiful women; especially, the elegant and sensual inhabitants of Paris. Maimon captures the essence of the café society with his masterful lines and inspired stokes of color. As for Isaac Maimon, he has a simple explanation for his work's appeal. When art lovers enter his world they "feel relaxed and connect with the scene. They can forget their everyday problems and become emerged in the romantic fantasy."
"I have been painting since as far back as I can remember. I received much encouragement from my family and friends. In my youth, I was given important direction from Moshe Agmon and later at the Avni Institute. I was greatly influenced by Haim Kiva and Moshe Rosenthalis. (Judaica) Other artists whose paintings have affected me are Matisse and of course Lautrec." less
