Born in Savannah, Georgia in 1912, abstract expressionist painter Morris Shulman studied at the National Academy of Design, Art Students League and Hans Hofmann School of Art in New York City. Shulman held teaching positions at the Brooklyn Museum School and School of Visual Art in New York City, Philadelphia College of Art and at the Skowhegan Art School in Maine. Shulman's work has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian, the Carnegie Institute Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, the Jewish Museum, Vassar College, the Rose Art Museum of Brandeis College, Colby College, Bezalel Museum Tel Aviv Israel, Parsons School of Design, and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
