Hannaford, educated in Paris, is known to have studied art under Stanhope Forbes. Hannaford first qualified as an architect and civil engineer. His exhibitions included the Royal Academy, the Royal Cambrian Academy, and the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour. Hannaford was well liked and possibly the favourite artist of King George V. Landscape painter, RBA, 1916. Add: The Mumbles, Swansea 1897; Plymouth 1902; East Grimstead, Sussex 1913; London 1916; Stalham, Norwich, Norfolk 1927. EXHIBITED: Manchester City Art Gallery; Royal Academy; Royal Society of British Artists; Royal Cambrian Academy; Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours; Walker's Gallery, London. He had a weakness for Scottish and Dartmoor pictures, also boating and fishing scenes, with some of his works being purchased by the Royal Collection.
He held exhibitions in the Walker Gallery, Bond Street in 1910 and 1912 and from the latter, one of his watercolours was purchased by King George and another by Queen Alexandra. Later, he exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal institute, R.B.A., Royal Canadian Academy and the Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester. After an invitation by Princess Marie Louise he painted a picture of the Queen’s Doll House.
Here the artist conveys a sense of quiet grandeur through the eyes of his subject and the way it's rendered. following a distinguished European lineage of Jewish genre artists who depicted judaic scenes sensitively and with a sense of quiet dignity.
