After Jean-Baptiste Nini
(French, 1717-1786) inscribed "J. B. Nini, 1780" on shoulder of bust.
Mounted in a neoclassical gilt-brass surround.
In a technique of his own invention, Nini refined the local clay through a process of elutriation and used it to cast his medallions from finely engraved copper molds.
