This David Hockney " Portraits " rare first edition hardcover Pop Art exhibition art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with dust jacket is published by Yale University Press. Printed in 2006 to accompany the exhibition organized by The National Portrait Gallery London, and Museum of Fine Arts Boston, in collaboration with The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It features a monograph survey of the portrait artworks of David Hockney, with compelling accompanied text authored by Sarah Howgate and Barbara Stern Shapiro, and essays by Mark Glazebrook, Marco Livingstone and Edmund White.
David Hockney ( B. 1937 ) is an English painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. He is an important contributor to The Pop Art Movement of the 1960's. He is considered one of the most influential British artists of The 20th Century. His artworks have commanded greater popular acclaim than any other Contemporary British artist. The Pop Art Expressionist style artworks have been the subject of more than 400 solo exhibitions. Art works by Hockney are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Hockney has engaged with portraiture since his teenage years, and his self-portraits and depictions of family, lovers, and friends represent an intimate visual diary of the artist's life.
This beautifully illustrated book examines Hockney's portraits in all media - painting, drawing, photographs, and prints, and has been produced in close collaboration with the artist. Subjects include members of Hockney's family and private circle, as well as portraits of such artists and cultural figures as Lucian Freud, Francesco Clemente, Andy Warhol, Helmut Newton and many others.
